A Fall Wedding at Heaven's Bench: Vermont's Northeast Kingdom at Its Best

There's something pretty magical about a fall wedding in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. I was recently reminded of that when I had the pleasure of officiating a wedding at Heaven's Bench behind The Wildflower Inn, a spectacular hilltop location with a 360-degree view of the Northeast Kingdom.
What makes this spot even more interesting is that Heaven's Bench is part of the Kingdom Trails mountain biking network. As someone who loves mountain biking and the outdoors, I couldn't help but appreciate the combination of two things I love: beautiful Vermont scenery and celebrating a couple's big day.
A View Worth Saying "I Do" For
Picture standing on a hilltop, surrounded by rolling mountains, colorful forests, and sweeping views in every direction. In the fall, the Northeast Kingdom puts on quite a show. The hillsides are painted in brilliant shades of red, orange, and gold, and the crisp autumn air adds to the experience.
At Heaven's Bench, the scenery does all the decorating. There's no need for an elaborate backdrop when nature has already provided one that's hard to beat.
As I stood there officiating the ceremony, I was struck by how peaceful and beautiful the setting was. Despite being surrounded by family and friends, the hilltop offered a sense of openness and intimacy all at once.
A Wedding with a Little Vermont Character
One of the things I love about officiating weddings is helping couples create a ceremony that feels like them. Whether it's a little humor, a heartfelt story, or a few meaningful words, the goal is to make the moment personal rather than overly formal.
And a setting like Heaven's Bench makes that even easier. There's something about being surrounded by mountains and open skies that puts things into perspective. It's a reminder that a wedding isn't about perfection. It's about two people making a commitment and sharing that moment with the people they love.
Of course, this is Vermont, so a little wind or a chilly breeze might make an appearance. But that's part of the charm. A few windswept hairstyles and a cozy wrap are just part of the autumn wedding experience.
A Beautiful Place to Begin a New Chapter
The Northeast Kingdom has a special kind of beauty, especially in the fall. It's less polished and more authentic, with winding country roads, mountain views, and small-town charm. And the Northeast Kingdom captures that spirit beautifully.
As a wedding officiant and mountain biking enthusiast, it was especially fun to experience this incredible location in a different way. Usually, I'm thinking about trails and time outside. This time, I was standing on a hilltop helping two people begin a new chapter together.
And what a backdrop it was.
Sometimes, the best wedding settings don't need much fuss. Just two people, a few heartfelt words, the people who matter most, and a breathtaking 360-degree view of the mountains.
Honestly, it's hard to imagine a more beautiful place to say "I do."
